Chris Etchells

Has over 25 years’ experience working in the social care sector, delivering bespoke person centred supported living services. I specialised in working with people who do not fit into traditional service settings.

Studied Social Work at Manchester University.

Whilst completing his social work qualification, Chris was seconded to work with a local group of parents to set up a charity to deliver housing, care and support. He still the Executive Officer of this charity and has led the organisation through set up to delivering services procured by the Local Authority. To keep the organisation going Chris extracted those services from traditional Local Authority contracts into direct payments and Individual service contracts.

Through his work with the charity Chris recognised the need to be able to deliver housing as an integral part to getting the support for the individual right. 12 years ago he co-founded Find Me a Home which delivers housing that cannot be delivered anywhere house. He has supported people who are reliant on benefits to get mortgages to secure housing; He has worked with families to secure family funded housing and wrapped it up so it is housing benefit applicable. Chris also works with Housing Associations to deliver long term sustainable housing projects. Supported housing funding now sits firmly in the private sector. Chris recently completed a £10m fund raise to enable the delivery of housing for 100 vulnerable people over the next 10 years on behalf of a national charity.

Throughout my career in housing & social care I have always been looking for innovative solutions to give people independence. We have used in home telecare solutions to give people more independence within the home environment. For the last 13 years I have had the idea of making the in-home telecare mobile, to give people greater freedom to be become more independent outside the home. I designed a one button device using mobile phone technology. It took me 9 years of knocking on doors and research before founding KMS Solutions (Keep Me Safe) which attracted private equity funding to make this idea / dream possible.
